Encaustic Monotype & Collage
Explore the spontaneous and unpredictable possibilities of encaustic monotype and collage in this playful, process-driven two-day workshop at Porter Mill Studios.
Encaustic monotype combines the immediacy of printmaking with the luminous qualities of wax. Working with heated surfaces, pigments, and a variety of Japanese papers, you’ll create a collection of unique monotypes that can stand on their own or become the building blocks for larger collage works.
The emphasis is on experimentation. You’ll be encouraged to work intuitively with color, texture, pattern, layering, and mark-making while discovering unexpected combinations along the way.
What You’ll Explore

After creating a collection of monotypes, we’ll shift our focus to composition—experimenting with ways to cut, layer, arrange, and combine your prints into finished pieces.
This workshop is designed to encourage experimentation rather than perfection, making it a great opportunity to discover new techniques and unexpected directions for your artwork.
